Wild dog pack in Mid-City

So I'm out on my balcony Sunday night/Monday morning about midnight when I see three dogs (two huge, one semi-huge) running down the street. One of them went down the middle of the street zigzagging like Reggie Bush, while the second one took a straight line down the sidewalk. The smaller dog brought up the rear. They were as brisk and silent as a school of fish; at the corner, they simultaneously made a right and disappeared from sight. I thought about calling the police, but the dogs were moving so fast that there wouldn't have been much to report.

Seems like they're still in the neighborhood, according to this email today from the Mid-City Neighborhood Organization:

We have just received information regarding a pack of dangerous wild dogs in the Mid-City area, most recently in the 100 block of S. Scott St. The incident occurred on Monday, July 4th between 2:00 and 2:30 a.m. when a neighbor was awakened by a disturbance in their back yard and observed 3 dogs, one being a dark colored, huge rottweiler, the second a light colored German Shepherd mix and the third being a mutt attacking a neighborhood cat. The cat did not survive the attack.

The Mid City Security District and SPCA have been notified, and Officer Frank has confirmed that this is the second report of a cat being killed by a group of dogs that match the same description in the last 2 weeks in the same general vicinity.

And a posting on a Mid-City listserv says someone has put up a sign on Cleveland Avenue warning about the dog pack. So it sounds like the pack wasn't just passing through, but has made Mid-City its territory.

Anyone else seen these dogs?

And if you haven't, keep an eye out if you're outdoors in Mid-City at night ... and keep your small pets indoors.
