Humane Society Supporters Help the Animal Survivors of the Chilean Earthquake: Benefit this Saturday for Disaster Relief! ![]() Tania Velasco (L) and Kim Dudek (R) helped rescue sweet Julieta from the disaster zone in Chile. This sweet survivor, whose back legs are crippled, is recovering at Dag's House in New Orleans, where she'll be cared for until she finds a forever home. WHAT: Fundraiser at the home of Tania Velasco, 8 Trianon Plaza, New Orleans, 70125 WHERE: Saturday, APRIL 17th Noon - 3pm Enjoy vegan and vegetarian Chilean dishes (salads), bread, fruit drinks and wine. Suggested donation $20.00 (Toys and treats for our HSL sanctuary animals are always welcome, too!) Humane Society of LA member and Chilean native, Tania Velasco, is working to help the animal victims of the earthquake. She's taken on the difficult task of airlifting dogs out of the disaster zone. ![]() Two Humane Society rescue volunteers are also set to deploy to the region - Cheri Deatsch and Courtney Chandel. Cheri will be in attendance at the fundraiser, along with Tania Velasco, who will give a brief presentation on the current situation in Chili. REDENIUS Joel Redenius, 39, formerly of Rockford, Ill, died as a result of a car accident on Friday, April 9, 2010, in New Orleans, La. Born Sept. 15, 1970, in DeKalb, Ill.; the son of Randall and Carolyn (Anderson) Redenius. Joel received his Bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University. He worked in Rockford at Alpine Bank and in Rockford and South Beloit at Trackside. Joel relocated to Louisiana in 2005 for a management position with Churchill Downs Inc., Fair Grounds Race Course and Slots, New Orleans. He is survived by his mother, Carolyn; aunts, Diane (John) Elliott, Donna (Jim) Carlson, Nancy (Bill) Dinges, Arlene K. Redenius, and Kitty Keene; cousins, Tonya Lamia, Steve Elliott, Amanda Carlson, Andrea (Tom) Farone, Greg (Shelley) Carlson, Kristin (Dean) Bice, Kelly (Jim) Duncan, Craig (Leah) Carter, Aaron (Jill) Dinges, Barbara Keene, Patty Newcomb, and Debbie (Bruce) Tipton; and in New Orleans, Joel's special friend, Cindy Orgeron. Joel will be greatly missed by Mario, his German Shepherd. Predeceased by his father, Randall; and uncles, Richard and Roger. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 600 N. Horsman St., in Rockford, Ill with Pastor Larry Yaw officiating. Burial at Highland Garden of Memories, Belvidere, Ill. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010, at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., in Rockford, Ill., and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service in the church. Memorials to be determined by the family. This incredible artist creation was donated from Connie and Randy Cotita of Studio Abbellire, pronounced (ah-buh-leer'-a), www.portfauxlio.com. Both are Louisiana decorative designers and muralists. The handcrafted "gypsy" style dog play house has movable wheels and beautiful murals depicting the 1790's painting "Punchinello with Dancing Dogs". The design consisted of many hours of great detail work, down to the functional entrance lanterns.
