Want to help us? Grounds Krewe could use more help!

Bark Bits #6
MEMORIAL DAY THOUGHT: The friendship of a dog is precious. It becomes even more so when one is so far removed from home...I have a Scottie. In him I find consolation and diversion...he is the one person to whom I can talk without the conversation coming back to war. Dwight D. Eisenhower
MEMORIAL DAY:
Friends of City Park office will be closed all day Monday May 31, 2010, in observance of Memorial Day.
NOLA City Bark will be open regular hours on Monday: 6am-9pm.

MAINTENANCE HOURS: Please remember that we are closed every Tuesday until 1PMfor regular maintenance. Roosevelt Mall and the path around Big Lake (in front of NOMA) are lovely places for an "on leash" stroll with your dog. Both have dog and human drinking fountains and misters/showers for cooling off. Remember to bring a bag to pick-up the poop just as you would in the dog park.

WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS: Over 16 people have volunteered to be on the grounds crew. Each grounds crew member will donate approximately 2 hours twice a month to help water, weed, plant, and keep the 4.6 acres of the dog park looking great. We would love to have about 50 people on this committee. If you can spend some time helping with this crew, email Scott Discon,scottdiscon@aol.com, to volunteer. This is a job you can do with your pet in attendance if you are working within the dog park fence.

SURF'S UP! in the small dog park: We have placed a small, heavy-duty wading pool in the small dog area for summer splashing by our little dogs. Empty and refill the pool as needed; the grass will love the water! Use the hose in the small dog area to fill the paw-pool, but please roll it up when not in use. Also, please modify the location of the pool a little each time so that the grass is not killed by the pool resting in one spot.

PAWEDCAST:
Susyn Stecchi, founder of Dog Park USA and author of So You Want to Build a Dog Park, visited NOLA City Bark on Wednesday May 26. It was great to meet her and have her visit the park. Watch for her review of NOLA City Bark on PawedCast.tv and hopefully in a chapter of her next book. Ms. Stecchi is from Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
SUMMER RUM: Friday June 11, from 7pm-10pm, is Friends of City Park* summer fundraiser, Summer Rum 2010: Yo Ho, Ho and a Whole lot of Rum, at the amusement park. This pirate themed event will feature 12 rum-specialty drink stations, food, live music, and unlimited rides in the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park. Prizes will be awarded to those decked out in the best pirate gear. (Your first mate, Fido, needs to stay at home for this people only event.) Tickets may be purchased by calling (504) 483-9376 or online atwww.friendsofcitypark.com. Tickets are $40 per person ($35 for Friends members) in advance and $45 the day of the event. Must be 21 or over to attend.
*Friends of City Park has been a major donor to NOLA CityBark and graciously shares their office space.

Important: If there is an incident between dogs, please share contact information with the owners of all dogs involved in an incident.
Many incidents can and should be avoided if you stay within voice control and view of your dog(s).
Woof! Woof!
