THE WHOLE GRITTY CITY!
I am sure I will be the only one NOT going to be at KDV this evening... I am staying home with my babies and the love of my life! So I am watching but you should TOTALLY set your DVR!
The "Whole Gritty City" comes on this evening. 8PM - 10PM on CBS/48 Hours.
STORY
"Once that band gives you that down beat...just for that brief two or three minutes you forget every problem you had. You have no cares in the world...Yeah it must be nice to live like that with no cares in the world" - Wilbert Rawlins Jr.
Living in a city traumatized by a flood and besieged by street violence, there's a deep longing to have "no cares in the world". But New Orleans is also the birth place of jazz: a community that to this day draws on a deeply rooted musical culture. For thousands of kids in the city's marching bands music is an escape, a refuge and a lifeline.
The Whole Gritty City is a documentary feature film that will premiere at The New Orleans Film Festival in October 2013. It tells the story of three New Orleans marching bands as they push to prepare for Mardi Gras parades, and three band directors battling for their students' lives and souls. It shows lives stopped in their tracks by the violence of the streets, and the power of music to lift and sustain the survivors.

Today is the Wiener Dog Races!
I got slammed on social media for posting about this event. I am pretty sure I will get slammed again. The only thing that disappoints me is that this could have been a great opportunity to collect food donations to be given to local non profit rescue organizations. Or - some of the fees collected could have been given to those organizations as well. I did send an email to the organizer and suggested that perhaps if they plan another next year they will consider giving back to the community in some way.
You know - dogs run. I am shocked that some of the people that sent feedback about how I should not be driving awareness for such thing are some of the same people that frequent City Bark so their dog can run. Nobody is beating these dogs to make them run.
Bring the family and friends for a fun day at the Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots and enjoy Thoroughbred Racing and for the first time at Fair Grounds, Wiener Dog Racing presented by Double M Feed, Pet and Garden Center.

We are back at Iberville housing project today. The 4 cats from yesterday have been released & we have a new batch circling the traps. We will have access to the buildings in a bit, until then, outside perimeter traps are set. Site manager confirmed there are easily 60+ cats at this facility. Donations are needed to keep this TNR project going!
The bottom right pic is a sweet boy that's a satisfied customer. (Already caught him 2 more times since his release.) Thanks to the generous donor who donated our new drop-trap, which will make trapping much quicker! Please visit out website www.southernanimalfoundati on.org if you can help out with a donation, or check out our Iberville TNR project on "go fund me". Thank yo

More regarding Intact Animal Law
Huge victory for Animals today in New Orleans, The Advocate Newspaper will support the Intact Animal Law requiring breeders to be licensed and regulated before placing ads for puppies for sale in their newspaper. This is huge!! Major newspaper addresses breeders who are running a business without a permit. See https://www.facebook.com/stopbackyardbreeders?ref=hl

If you agree...Supporters of the NOLA Intact Animal Permit Law
I phone every single day. If you have a moment... please do!
THE TIMES PICAYUNE AND THE ADVOCATE DO NOT CARE ABOUT DOGS!!!
The LASPCA agrees that we should start CALLING breeders' ads and notifying them that they MUST have a permit to be a breeder and the permit number MUST appear in their ads selling puppies. This apples whether they are in Orleans or any other Parish, they are pumping dogs into New Orleans and we already have enough!
Please be nice when calling, tell them they can call the LASPCA and get a permit to show they are a "responsible breeder" LASPCA phone # 5O4-368-5191 If you can talk to them about overpopulation do so, otherwise keep it short and sweet. Let the newspapers deal with their wrath!
It is obvious that neither the Times Picayune nor the Advocate Care about Dogs and their plight! No doubt they will hear from some of these BREEDERS who have no license and are costing the tax payers of our city HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS

The sweetest story every...
I got a text (which I can't photograph because the baby's name is in it). We walk their pup five days a week and the 2ish year old baby is often home with her Nanny. Her Mom tucked her in the other night and sent me this text...
"... You'll have to tell Brad that when P and I were saying her prayers before her bedtime she want to pray for Brad."
How sweet is that? We have the best clients ever and this baby is just ADORABLE.
Cat bites often turn into hospital stay
Good information. Key take away... if you don't know what you are doing. Call me and I will call Pamela

SAF Update...
Pamela told me Southern Animal Foundation is finished saving lives today and caught 15 cats in the Iberville Projects.
Southern Animal Foundation needs some help!
SAF staff is currently working an urgent feral colony at one of the city's old housing projects this morning. We estimate there are at least 20 cats in this large area. Maybe more. The project is being demolished in order to put up a new facility. There are plenty of ways for the cats to get away from the demo project, but there are pregnant females out there. Our goal is to TNR as many as we can before any kittens are born. Unfortunately we cannot get into the site because it's fenced of entirely. So we are locating spots outside of the fence that the cats can get through & setting the traps there. The city & local animal control aren't interested in assisting us. It's a big project. Our surgery cost is $25 per cat. If you would like to contribute financially to help us, ANYTHING would be greatly appreciated. Please visit our website www.southernanimalfoundation.org and click in the donate tab. Mark it for "Iberville TNR" Thanks & we will keep you posted on our progress. (4 caught so far!)
If you can, please help support SAF in this effort!
