"504Paws" at Mimi's Sunday afternoon

From Gambit

June is officially Adopt a Shelter Cat month, but giving shelter animals a new home is a great thing to do all year. Tomorrow Mimi's in the Marigny will be hosting a benefit for the Louisiana SPCA and the St. Bernard Parish Animal Shelter — and you can meet the pets or just help out a bit.

Food will be provided by chef Heathcliff Hailey, there will be door prizes and a live art auction by local artist Dan Tague and DJ Andy Average of the Junkyard Radio Show will be spinning. Adoptable animals will be on hand, of course, and there will be a cash bar. A $10 donation at the door gets you in.

Mimi's in the Marigny

3 p.m.-7 p.m.

Keeping a watchful eye...

HEADS UP:

There were two Sexual Assaults on early Sunday morning May 29th. The first one happened in the 1700 block of Jefferson Ave. At about 4:00 a.m. a white female was walking and was approached by an unknown subject and she was sexually assaulted. No additional information about this incident is being released at this time by the police department because of the sensitive nature of this incident.

About two hours later a second incident occurred in the area of Broadway and Freret St. This incident involved a white female student from Tulane. This incident occurred in her residence. It is unclear if she was followed home or if the wanted subject may have been allowed in.

The only description at this time is from the second incident. The suspect is described as a W/M 20-30 years of age, Tall and Thin. He was wearing a hooded type of dark color sweat shirt.

The New Orleans Police Department is not releasing any additional details about these incidents at this time. They are not saying if these two incidents are related. Both of these incidents are open Criminal Investigations.

Please use the patrol as often as you can and report suspicious activity to the NOPD 911 and to the GDSD patrol 899-4373.

Black Lab needs a home... Owner died

I received this email and started to cry... Please help find this sweet baby find a home!

Dear Diane,

I need your help. Last night my father saw police lights a couple of blocks away and went to check it out. It was on one of his dog-walking routes. It turns out that a neighbour, a man in his thirties, Lester, was found dead in his bottom apartment. He had been dead for several days. Unfortunately, Lester's dog RT (pronounced Artie) was with him for those days. Thank God the upstairs neighbours decided to call someone to check out the oddity of him being missing and the new smell. The girl who lives upstairs agreed to keep the dog for a day or two while we tried to get RT into some safe place until everything settles and then if needed adopted. Neither of us can take him on at this point. I am going out of town soon and this situation will not keep. I hope you can put his info out and see if some good Samaritan on your list has room in their heart for this sad creature. He cried last night. I could hear him clear from 2 blocks away. My father's never heard him cry before.

RT's description - he is a black lab x -- My father's says he is very gentle and submissive.

Hurricane Season - 2011

It is that time again y'all! I just finished the final touches on our 2011 Hurricane Plan...

I always reserve personal comment on the writer… however; the quote is one that I find myself using this time of the year. “Hope is not a plan. Don’t hope for something. Plan for it. ”-Anderson Cooper (When talking about respective response of government(s) support, or lack thereof, regarding Katrina)

My business is taking care of your family and I take that very seriously. We do not haphazardly enforce our PLAN. It may be a bit more than you want to think about but this is not our first hurricane season. If you choose another pet care company or decide upon a boarding facility, I would suggest that you are sure they have a written plan that leaves no room for ambiguity.

If you would like a copy of our Disaster Preparedness Guide For Pet Owners, please send us an email and we will be happy to send that to you. Our email address is NOLAPetCare@aol.com

This blog turns into an emergency page (it has always been on the site, just not visible).

We HOPE to never have to execute the PLAN again... but we are prepared to do so. HOPE IS NOT A PLAN.
