Some fantastic events...


October 6th              Feral Cat TNR—The Basics & Beyond Workshop, from 10:00am-noon at The LA/SPCA located at 1700 Mardi Gras Blvd.  Learn the importance of TNR, find out about basic methods and equipment, network and find area resources for low-cost spay/neuter, trap rental or purchase, discover ways to advocate for neighborhood cats and how to gain support for TNR in the community and more.  To register for this FREE workshop call 762.3306.

October 13th                 BARKtoberfest Canine Costume Contest & Trick or Treating (for dogs) will be held at Canine Connection, located at 4920 Tchoupitoulas St., from 4:00-8:00.  Costume Contest registration fee is $5.00, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Louisiana SPCA.  Music by the Hurricane Levee Band, prizes, games, giveaways, rescue dogs and snacks & refreshments available for a donation to the Louisiana SPCA.  Bring an unopened bag or can of dog or cat food for the LA/SPCA Food Pantry and receive a complimentary raffle tickets!  Also, meet GUMBO the Saints mascot from 6:30pm-7:30pm.  Call 218-4098 or visit www.la-spca.org or www.canineconnectionnola.com for more information.

October 13th             Pet First Aid/CPR Course, sponsored by the LA/SPCA will be held at the Louisiana SPCA, located at 1700 Mardi Gras Blvd. from 9:00am-12:30pm.  Find out what to do if your dog suddenly stops breathing or your cat cuts her paw on a piece of glass and more.  This hands-on training course will teach you the basics in animal handling, restraint, pet first aid and CPR using realistic animal mannequins.  Taught by a Red Cross certified instructor, you will learn what to do in common emergency situations prior to seeking veterinary care.  Course fee is $60 and pre-registration is required to secure a seat.  Please call 368-5191, ext. 154.

October 20th            Howling Success, presents “Superheroes” - Our 34th Annual Howling Success will celebrate your iconic Superheroes, everyday heroes, and everyone’s heroes - the animals of the Louisiana SPCA!  Festivities include a marvelous silent auction, cuisine from New Orleans' best restaurants, a special Create Your Own "Superhero" Photo Comic Book, Mardi Gras Bead Dog® Raffle and much more!  Join Chef Greg Picolo from Redemption Restaurant as he leads the cornucopia of landmark restaurants serving signature dishes.  Ingrid Lucia will kick off the patron party from 7-8:30pm, followed by the 11-piece Twilight Band for the Gala.  Patrons enjoy specialty hors d’oeuvres, unique auction items and mingling with guest celebrities while benefiting the animals of the Louisiana SPCA.  Enjoy specialty cocktails courtesy of Glazer’s Distributors as well as a specialty beer selection courtesy of The Bulldog.  Get your tickets or sponsor tables now at www.la-spca.org/howlingsuccess, and join our Facebook event page athttp://www.facebook.com/events/430502367001970. ; Be a superhero for the animals of the Louisiana SPCA at Howling Success!

October 27th                Halloween Themed OVERNIGHT Critter Cinema, sponsored by the LA/SPCA will be held at the Louisiana SPCA, located at 1700 Mardi Gras Blvd., from 6:00pm-9:00am (Sunday, October 28).  Great fun for animal-loving, pizza-eating, movie-watching kids!  What better way to end the week than getting cozy with kitties & puppies, enjoying G-rated critter movies, crafts, games, stories, making friends with other young animal lovers and snacking on pizza & popcorn at the LA/SPCA!  For kids ages 5-10, please bring a sleeping bag, pillow, toothbrush and PJs.  $55 per child.  Pre-registration is required, please call 368-5191, ext. 207 or e-mail hollie@la-spca.org.  For more info visit www.la-spca.org/crittercinema
