In today's paper... My client Gene - one of the most loyal advocates in NOLA

Bravo Gene!  Thanks for taking the time to do this...

Dear Letter to the Editor,

New Orleans took a great leap when the City Council unanimously passed the Intact Animal Permit Law, and it's update which requires that "The intact permit number must be displayed when advertising the puppies for sale or adoption." Not a single ad in the Times Picayune, Advocate, or Nola.com, reflects this requirement. If the trusted sources of New Orleans news aren't cooperative partners, are not part of the solution, then these valued news sources become the problem.

Perhaps you haven't seen the boxes of puppies dumped on street corners, and in dumpsters, or visited the local animals shelters where animals are euthanized because the number of animals exceeds capacity of the shelters and the dedicated manpower of the employees and volunteers. There simply isn't space for all the strays and owner surrenders. With over 90,000 companion animals euthanized every year in this State, it's impossible to understand any business policy that encourages over breeding, animal abuse, dog bites and many other avoidable animal related issues that plague our city.

When profit and business take greater precedence than morality, our system is clearly in trouble. When the policy of our city newspapers reflects divisiveness with the laws established in that city, the system crumbles. For this reason, and for the sake of the animal and human residents in New Orleans, we make an urgent plea for you to adhere to the laws that our Mayor, Mitch Landrieu has signed. Failing your compliance, we will be vociferous in our response, because there is no excuse for your not acting in accordance with the law, especially when it affects the lives of so many in the community.
